"I Like Layers"

Says George Zinavoy the main character of the movie The Art of Getting By.The following are movies that have moved me to reflect on life, love and our relationships with people. Complexity is much more interesting and desired. I also love sensitive characters and stories because I can connect on an emotional and personal level with them. Not every film I watch is capable of achieving this for me. I highly recommend adding them to your summer movies list. These movies are also about Age: getting to a particular time in our lives and reflecting on ourselves:

The Perks of Being a Wallflower
I saw this movie and was mesmerized from beginning to end of its artistic direction, acting, and writing. I didn't know what it was about when I watched it, so it was a grateful surprise to my heart.

The Art of Getting By
This film takes place in NYC and though the characters are privileged high school students living in the Upper East Side, attending a private school, I could relate to their stories of growing up in a generation of threats, technology and instability and finding meaningful connections with people. Not everyone can find a recipe "to get by" in our society but when we do, and it is thanks to someone who changed us, life takes a whole different meaning. Also, this movie is just too artistically beautiful, form the smallest jokes to the scenography. Enjoy.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
In India, we have a saying; everything will be all right in the end. So if it is not all right, it is not yet the end.
Beautiful Thoughts from the character Evelyn Greenslide (Juy Dench) and, of course, it takes place in India. But really, Judy Dench and Maggie Smith did a superb job. Enough Said.
The only real failure is the failure to try, and the measure of success is how we cope with disappointment.
