I have so much free time lately, I am super unemployed as of last week, so I'm letting you in (aka procratinating) on some of the stuff I love to do and watch, while I resume my job search:
Last Monday I attended a free workshop organized by Monica Aparicio of Total Life Remix called "How to make S#it happen". I attended mostly because I was free and curious to find out what it was about. The title got me.
I went down to the Lower East Side to a bar by the name of No Fun where it was going to take place. Dark lighted, with colors that make you think of vintage and old (dirty red, brown, black) but you can still feel a modern vibe to it. However, the most interesting part was the cocktail menu, the recipes had the funniest names and its descriptions were equally entertaining. I had a drink aptly named "Dumb Luck" in a collins glass with some Organic Vodka, Lipton Iced Tea, and highball Whiskey, served shaken. It was delicious and refreshing though a little sour but It didn't really affect my opinion of the drink.
So anyway, I was at a bar named No Fun attending an event called Hot To Make S#it Happen while drinking some Dumb Luck cocktail. No Pun Intended.
No Fun is located on Ludlow Street between Houston St and Stanton St. I love that particular section of LES because of the random and unique boutiques, bars and theatres in the area. The same can be said about SOHO and the village.
Anyway, I saw five shops worth looking at if you're into fashion and supporting local artists:
First is, of course, No Fun (161 Ludlow St). Check out their happy hour from 7-9, their drinks are $6.
For the jewelry, shoes, and vintage clothing lovers:
Check out Mint Julep (173 Ludlow St) . A cutesy, flirty, affordable and fashionable boutique.
After that, cross the street and check out Assembly New York ( 170 Ludlow Street): Kind of affordable, semi-casual clothing, high fashion for sure. Impressive Interior design and clothing arrangements. My favorite part was their business card which had a bright orange on one side, and all the information about the store on the other on white and black, very interesting.
Right next to Assembly is O.D.D (164 Ludlow St, @ODD_style, Facebook.com/becoming.odd):
My first impression of the store came from looking at the mannequin at the entrance which was half man/half woman. And each side was an indicative of the gender clothing found on each side. My second impression came from their business card, the paper from which it was made was so thick. These guys like to make big impressions. It was so cool.
At the corner of Stanton and Ludlow there is a store called Yumi Kim. A very happy, flowery, and also flirty store with decent prices. I loved their accesories mostly.
If you're into Organic Make up, and you know about LUSH (you must!!) already, then check out this pretty boutique by the name of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics or O.C.C ( 100% vegan and cruelty-free). The staff was helpful and welcoming. I want to go back and spend more time there next time, I personally love lipsticks.
