History was made tonight thanks to State Senator Wendy Davis who started her filibustering ordeal of 13 hours!! to stop the Republican-mongering senators from voting for a bill that would (in a sneaky way) restrict planned parenthood services in Texas, specifically abortion. As a woman, I feel so proud to see this senator stand for our rights, and after all the uncomfortable notions that were raised against her and her cause, she was able to make it through just a few minutes ago. The crowd was the more exciting part because they ended up filibustering the last 15 minutes of the session. Good-bye Male domination for a few minutes! The best part was when State Senator Leticia Van Der Putt said " At what point does a female senator need to raise her voice to be heard over the male colleagues in the room?"
This is an exciting event to end the day after that awful Supreme Court decision we heard today that would affect Voting Rights, Voter ID laws in Southern States imposing new disadvantages against minorities (aka blacks and latinos) who will become the next important groups (over the next 20 years) to influence voting decision in the South.
***I just heard the State Republican Senators voted in favor if the bill after midnight. SO, Wendy Davis couldn't eat, drink, sit down, lean, pee, or stop talking because RULES ARE RULES, but you can call a vote after midnight?*******
