Lorde- Queen Bee of the Rebels

What an amazing discovery I made last week with this young artist. Her stage name is Lorde, she is sixteen years old and is an amazing songwriter and singer.
She just realized an album titled "Pure Heroine" and I'm loving it. Originally from New Zealand, she has an indie background with hip hop, R&B  influences.

I mean, come on, look at these lyrics:

I've never seen a diamond in the flesh
I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies
And I'm not proud of my address,
In a torn-up town, no postcode envy

But every song's like gold teeth, grey goose, trippin' in the bathroom
Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room,
We don't care, we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams.
But everybody's like Cristal*, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece.
Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash.
We don't care, we aren't caught up in your love affair.

And we'll never be royals (royals).
It don't run in our blood,
That kind of luxe just ain't for us.
We crave a different kind of buzz.
Let me be your ruler (ruler),
You can call me queen Bee
And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule.
Let me live that fantasy.

Not your typical 16-year-old lyrics, to my knowledge. She's also highly  critical of some mainstream artists such as Selena Gomez and I love that too. I've noticed that it is the adults that are appreciative of this artist's gifts: check out Noisey's interview and Bustle's praise of the singer.

She radiates a confidence that only adults who don't take shit from people can understand. I was at Bill DeBlasio's victory party last week and her song "Royals" played during his stage entrance: that says a lot about how influential this singer, and evemtually this mayor will be to our society and city. We will see though...
