I just learned the newscaster for Univision, Ilia Calderon, who is Afro-Colombian, is dating Corean-American Eugene Jang. Watching the interview I realized I went through similar situations with my ex who was Chinese-American. The meeting of families is strikingly different for instance, especially because latino families are much more prone to show feelings for each other while Asian families are much more reserved about it and show it through their actions and behavior (academic, laboral, respectful of elderly, etc). But there is always a common ground with each culture, and if you're both open-minded and respectful of each other, the relationship can function perfectly regardless of what people may think or say. The coolest part I think is how unusual these couplings may be to our society, we use to get stares from people on the streets, and my close circle of friends never understood why I liked him since I am loud, love dancing and he was shy and serious . But I guess that is where our balance was in a way.
It was one of the best experiences of my life for sure. You learned from each other so much, its a constant learning experience, its fun, romantic and keeps the relationship interesting!
